Which personal data we collect and why


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.


If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

Contact forms within the site may require information such as your full name, company name, contact information, and other personal data that are used exclusively for communication between the publisher and any interested party.
During form submission, information such as the IP address and the page from which the entry was made are also collected to control and prevent any unwanted messages from automated systems.

Who we share your data with

Some of your data is shared with third-party applications that only serve for the better and easier operation and management of the site.

Your analytics data is shared with Google using the Google Analytics library.

Data you enter in newsletter forms are shared with the SendInBlue service, which serves in sorting them and for better newsletter management. If you would like to unsubscribe from our mailing list you can click here. In case you want to just update your preferences or profile details you can do so by opening one of our newsletters and clicking on the corresponding link at the bottom. The SendinBlue Automation service is also used in order to analyze user preferences and viewing habits regarding our posts – articles and for serving more relevant content on newsletters and marketing promotions. A chat platform called Tidio is also used that connects users with customer support. We are collecting email addresses and names only with the consent of the users, in order to start the chat. The messages and data exchanged are stored within the Tidio application. For more information, please refer to their Privacy Policy.
We are not making use of these messages or data other than to follow up on users’ registered issues or inquiries. IP addresses are also transmitted to the Tidio application once the end user initiates the chat. Your personal data will be processed and transmitted in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Privacy and Protection law (CPP).

OneSignal is a marketing engagement application which delivers web-push notifications to users regarding several topics of our website such as news, latest articles, updates, etc. The application collects data which is not PII (Personally Identifiable Information) and does so after the user gives explicit consent by accepting our cookie and privacy policy as well as when the subscription is accepted. The terms under which the information and data we provide to OneSignal and is being processed can be found at their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. For a faster and safer distribution of giannisftaras.dev, cloud servers are used as intermediaries from the Cloudflare service. This service, in order to perform the redistribution function properly, may collect browser data from the user / visitor that comprise but are not limited to: IP address, requested page, geographic location, etc. This data is collected and processed under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

The data obtained may be also shared with judicial, police and other administrative authorities upon their legal request and in accordance with the applicable legal provisions. The user / visitor has, within the framework of telecommunication protection legislation, the rights to information and disagreement provided by applicable law articles.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
